Rugby Union: Junior Gogs in Wales selection.

Byline: rob GRIFFITHS

SEVEN members of the Gogledd Cymru under-16s team have been selected to join the Wales national training squad in the new year, from which the Wales U16 team will be picked.

Gogledd Cymru coach John Stubbs was delighted at the news, which sees Gareth Morgan (Ruthin), Jake Simms (Mold), Brandon Allsop (Caernarfon), Gruffudd Jones (Wrexham), Iolo Evans (Caernarfon), Jac Williams (Ruthin) and Andrew Oakden (Welsh Exile) all put forward.

Stubbs said: "This is great news for the boys as this is the final stepping stone to national honours.

"The boys selected will acknowledge the part that all our squad players and coaches, working together, have played in getting them the recognition by playing successfully in the age grade championships."

The announcement came shortly after the Gogledd Cymru U16s stunned their Scarlets counterparts with a 22-15 win at Llandovery.

The Gogs will now entertain Blues North in their final home game of the season this Sunday (12.30pm kick off) at Ruthin.
