Rs31.56b for Punjab roads.

Punjab will spend Rs31.56 billion in FY2014-15 on road sector. Rs11.53b will be used in southern Punjab while Rs2.1 billion will go to improving and up-grading farm to market roads in the province.

Roads are the mode of transportation with over 90% passengers and freight traffic using roads with average yearly growth of 4.5% and 10.5% respectively.

Punjab's roads development strategy is focused on consolidation and maintenance of a vast network of provincial highways, inter-district roads, and links for rural access and farm to market roads. Punjab's road portfolio also includes major urban and intra city roads.

The sector's total revised outlay for year 2013-14 was Rs33.837 billion, increase of about 20% over previous year's allocation. FY2013-14 saw 103 road projects completed. Major schemes completed in FY2013-14 are:

*Flyover on G T Road in Gujranwala(cost Rs3.92 b)

*Improvement of Multan Road, Lahore from Thokar Niaz Baig to Chauburji (cost Rs3.58b),

*Dualization of Gujranwala to Daska section (cost Rs2.08b),

*Flyover at Peshawar Road near Pirwadai, Rawalpindi, (cost Rs1.45b),

*Underpass at Abdullahpur, Faisalabad (cost Rs1.23b),

*Renovation of Multan Road, Lahore from Scheme Morr to Chauburji (cost Rs993 m),

*Improving Lahore -Sheikhupura- Sargodha Road (cost Rs620 m). In FY2014-15, the target is 337 schemes including following major schemes:

*Rehab of Gujranwala- Hafizabad Road (cost Rs1.94b),

*Doubling of Sahiwal- Pakpattan Road (cost Rs1.42b),

*Widening of Pattoki - Kanganpur Road, (cost Rs974m),

*Widening Sheikhupura- Sargodha Road (cost Rs991m),

*Widening Faisalabad By-Pass to Mari Pattan, (cost Rs900m),

*Rehab of Sundar- Raiwind Road (cost Rs696 m),

*Rehab of Manga- Raiwind Road (cost Rs670 m),

*Widening of Rangpur- Chowk Munda- Daira Din Pannah to Taunsa Morr, Muzaffargarh(cost Rs 638m),

*Road on Empress Bund Bahawalpur(costRs590 m),

*Underpass at Karol Ghati, Lahore Ring Road (cost Rs505 m). Major new roads being taken up in FY2014-15 are:

*Bridge over Indus near Miranpur, RY Khan (cost Rs4.0b),

*Flyover on GT Road at Aziz Cross, Gujranwala (cost Rs4.0b),

*Widening of Sargodha- Bannu Road - Phase-II Kot Chandna to Daratang, (cost Rs2.0b),

*Widening of road Yazman to Ahmedpur East (cost Rs1.5b),

*Approach road to Icha Bangla, RY Khan (cost Rs1.5b),

*Dual road from Burewala to Chichawatni, Vehari (cost f Rs1.16b),

*Widening of Chiniot- Faisalabad road, (cost Rs950 m),

*Bridge over railway lines between Jahanian to Saddar police station and Abdul Ghafoor Road, Khanewal (cost Rs800m).
