On June 18, six children from the primary school from which we run the playgroup and four other younger children, three of whom attend the playgroup, participated in a cycling event at Mallory Park racing circuit run by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council.
Between them, the children managed to clock more than 20 miles - pretty amazing as the eldest was only eight and the youngest just two, although he was sitting in a child's seat on the back of his dad's bike!
This is the second time I have used this annual public event as a sponsored bike ride fundraiser for the playgroup and thanks to Royston and his horseracing colleagues we have managed to raise an astonishing pounds 730.
Royston somehow managed to cajole and persuade many of his colleagues to sponsor his own children, and for that I cannot thank him enough.
Thanks must also go to all the jockeys who put their hands in their pockets, as their contribution totalled 74 per cent of what was raised.
The Ffrenchs' support for the playgroup, which has been open for only six months, has been fantastic. They are a truly lovely family and it is a real pleasure to know them.
Newbold Mynahs will always be in their debt.
