Royal bid to be president; AFGHANISTAN.

THE great grandson of an Afghan king who slaughtered and tortured thousands is campaigning to be the country's next president.

Prince Abdul Ali Seraj says he will get tough against the Taliban, just like his ancestor.

Abdur Rahman Khan ruled from 1880-1901. Despite making slaves of an entire province and even forcing rivals to eat one another, he is remembered for uniting the country's warring tribes.

Prince Abdul, who fled Afghanistan in 1978 just before the Soviet invasion, said: "Afghan people never rally around policies - they rally around people."
