Roy O. Martin Lumber Company wins 2004 forest stewardship award.

Roy O. Martin (ROM) Lumber Company of Alexandria, Louisiana was honored for winning the 2004 National Hardwood Lumber Association's Forest Stewardship Award at the National Hardwood Lumber Association's annual convention in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in October. ROM was one of several companies nominated for the award, and was selected as overall winner based on five categories of forest stewardship: 1) they conducted and/or participated in local, regional, and national programs to educate the public and local communities about forestry, forest stewardship, and the forest products industry; 2) they were cited for their political involvement and efforts to affect local, state, and national legislation that benefits forest stewardship; 3) they were cited for their efforts to educate non-industrial private forestland owners about forest management and forest stewardship, as well as our involvement in state and regional forestry associations; 4) their forest management program and specific timber harvesting practices were heralded for commitment to good forest stewardship; and 5) they were commended for their mill and business activities that contribute to good forest stewardship by maximizing the utilization and value of the forest resource, as well as our manufacturing and marketing strategies for our various wood products.
