About Rounder Records

Rounder Records is an independent record label based in Cambridge, Massachusetts specializing in roots music and its contemporary offshoots. The Rounder catalog contains over 3000 titles of traditional and contemporary folk, bluegrass, blues, rock, reggae, children's and world music.

With an annual release schedule averaging 125 records a year, Rounder today is best compared not to the small, ragged-but-right folk label it once was, but to the broad-shouldered independents of the 1960s, to Herb Alpert's A&M, Frank Sinatra's Reprise and the powerful folk labels Vanguard and Elektra, who helped foster that era's popular music renaissance. Now they hope to establish a third stream for American music - a middle class, if you will, combining the best instincts of the independent label with the muscular business power of the major label.
