Rothley Park side hosts annual encounter against The Droglites; GOLF.

ROTHLEY Park played host to a special match against a team of former Leicester Tigers rugby players last week, while further afield, a junior player had been in championship action in Scotland.

Thursday, August 15: Men's Team Match On Thursday evening Rothley entertained the Droglites (Droglites is an anagram for Old Tigers) in their annual encounter with the former Leicester Tigers rugby players.

The Droglites Team had over 600 caps for the Tigers and included 24 time England international, George Chuter, among their number plus Peter Sandford who holds the record as the player with the quickest hat-trick of tries in Tigers history.

However, unintimidated by the wealth of ex rugby talent on display Rothley went on to secure victory in the match by 4-2. There were wins for Peter Kinder & Alan Dorn, Carl Harris and Jez Perry, and Steve Mounfield and Gordon Bigham; with halves for Bruce Wheeler & Roger Inkley and Jonno Arkle & Andy Simpson.

Carl Harris and Jez Perry are one of three pairings who remain undefeated this season; the others are Bruce Wheeler & Roger Inkley and Jon Feeley & Dillon Boivin. The next match is against Glen Gorse at Rothley on Wednesday, August 21.

Thursday, August 15: First Team match The First Team won, 6-2 against Beedles Lake, away.

Monday August 12, Seniors v L&R Lady Veterans.

Winners with 83 Stableford points: Richard Heathcote, Chris Olivier, Janie Heaney and Terri Wills.

Runners up with 74 Stableford Points: Rob Dews, John Dekonski, Mary Langley and Di Sim August 3/4: Rothley Park junior Victoria Mayfield (16) played in the St Andrews University School Girls Championship - a 54 hole event played over Eden, Strathtyrum and the Jubilee courses. Victoria recorded a very creditable total for the three rounds of 241 gross, which resulted in her handicap being cut from 9 to 7 and finishing in 11th place overall.

Victoria has been a member at Rothley Park for just over three years where she began with a handicap of 20.
