Ropes & Gray Partner Named Chair of ABA Standing Committee on Federal Judiciary.

BOSTON, Mass., July 10 /PRNewswire/ --

Roscoe Trimmier, Jr., a partner in the law firm Ropes & Gray, has been selected to serve a one-year term, beginning this August, as chair of the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Federal Judiciary, the body that reviews candidates considered for federal judgeships.

Trimmier, 56, has been a Ropes & Gray partner since 1983 and is the assistant head of the firm's litigation department. An accomplished trial lawyer, Trimmier has represented corporations, utilities, high technology firms, and governmental authorities in litigation in state and federal courts.

"I am honored that the ABA has entrusted me with the chairmanship of this important committee," said Trimmier. "It is my intent to work with the distinguished members of the committee to uphold and strengthen the role of the ABA committee in ensuring that individuals of the highest ability and integrity are considered for the federal bench."

Since its creation in 1957, the 15-member committee has evaluated the qualifications of individuals considered for appointment to the Supreme Court of the United States, Circuit Courts of Appeals, District Courts, and the Court of International Trade.

Trimmier is a 1971 graduate of Harvard College and received his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1974, joining Ropes & Gray the same year. He is a member of the American, Massachusetts, and Boston bar associations, and is a Fellow of the Massachusetts and American Bar Foundations. He is admitted to the bar of the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts, the First Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and the Supreme Court of the U.S. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of the American Law Institute.
