Roofing Study Completed.

Five major European producers of polyester nonwovens for roofing applications have completed an "Eco-Profile" project in conjunction with EDANA, European Disposables and Nonwovens Association, Brussels, Belgium. The purpose of this project was to prepare environmental product information on polyester nonwovens for roofing membranes. The committee will not consider the principles of standardized Life Cycle Assessment, an accounting technique that allows the resource uses and emissions associated with a product to be detailed and quantified. The resulting Eco-Profile and LCA data will be available to interested parties such as roofing membrane producers and branch organizations.

The data comprises all process sites of polyester nonwoven production from crude oil extraction to factory gates of nonwoven producers. The Eco-Profile has been calculated as an average weight by the production volume of the participating companies to achieve the best representation possible.

The panel has commissioned the Institut fur Energie and Umweltforschung Heidelberg GmbH for the study.
