Global Banking News - 17 April 2019

A bill drafted by social democrats Liviu Dragnea and Serban Nicolae to repatriate gold in Romania has been opposed by the central bank.

The bill will introduce changes to how National Bank of Romania (BNR) functions. The main aim of the bill is to limit gold reserves that Romania holds abroad.

The draft bill is to be voted in the Chamber of Deputies and, if approved, the central bank would have to repatriate the gold it currently keeps with the Bank of England.
