Romance by the truck load; PAPERBACK HERO (15).

TRUCKERS are renowned for wearing baseball caps, that particular style of denim trouser which has an attractive dip round the back, and allegedly preferring a more chunky brand of chocolate confectionery.

They are not usually associated with writing romantic novels.

Which is precisely the problem for Jack Willis (Hugh Jackman). He's not just a trucker but an Aussie to boot - and they don't get much more aggressively, defensively male than that.

So when the tale of hearts-and-flowers he scribbled down to relieve boredom prompts a publisher to come in search of the author with a major book deal in hand, Jack is desperate and cons his dubious best mate Ruby Vale (Claudia Karvan) - the name he attached to his novel - to play up to the ruse.

Needless to say, a comedy of antipodean errors ensues in this unassuming slice of instantly forgettable and entirely obvious fluff.

It offers a few earthy laughs, but basically, this is chick flick territory, with all the goings on that usually entails.
