Roman back into history.

Hundreds of people are being invited to step back in time this Saturday as Segedunum Roman Fort aims to recreate a bustling Roman community.

More 600 volunteers are required to take part in the Praesidium II event to show how life would have been in the Wallsend Fort's Roman community.

Participants can wear ordinary clothes, there is no requirement to get dressed up in Roman dress, and the event will be filmed for posterity from the museum tower.

Fort curator, Geoff Woodward, said: "We want people of all ages from all walks of life to take part.

"This event is to visually emphasise the size of the Roman community at Segedunum by gathering enough people together to recreate the size of the garrison."

Participants should arrive at 11am to recreate the Roman community and admission for the whole event is free.

Anyone interested in taking part should call (0191) 236 9347.
