The 100 well-heeled will be selling to the public are by invitation only and will give visitors the chance to pick up a real bargain -or possibly even a precious heir loom.

The event will also feature an auction, hosted by antiques expert and broadcaster Tim Wonnacott of BBC Antiques Roadshow fame and Daytime Bargain Hunt.

Mr Wonnacott said: ``I'm very excited about this event, and the public should be as well because this is a car boot sale with a difference.

``It's not dealers hawking their fare in a field. The items on sale will be from the attics of wealthy people, and will be fresh to the market.

``People could find themselves with some fantastic bargains of genuine quality.''

The Marchioness of Cholmondeley told the Daily Post: ``This is going to be a really exciting event and should provide a great deal of interest and fun.

``The lovely setting of Cholmondeley Castle, together with the unique programme are sure to make this one of the most important and high profile charity events in the North West calendar for 2004.

``Hopefully it will raise thousands of pounds for two of the region's most deserving charities.

The North West Cancer Research Fund makes between pounds 750,000 and pounds 1mavailable every year for research.
