DURHAM City MP Roberta Blackman-Woods has been asked by the Prime Minister to serve as assistant to the Minister for the North East.

She will help co-ordinate campaigns in the region, with a special emphasis on economic issues, and she will liaise with and support the work of both the regional minister and national ministers.

Dr Blackman-Woods said: "I am delighted to have been asked to help the Prime Minister, the regional Minister, Nick Brown, and the whole Ministerial team in helping to co-ordinate our economic and business policies for the North East.

"I will be spending a lot of my time speaking up for the North East."
