Rohto to sell disposable contact lenses with 3-month life.

OSAKA, June 13 Kyodo

Rohto Pharmaceutical Co. said Wednesday it will start selling disposable contact lenses with a three-month life for the first time in Japan on June 27.

The Osaka-based company said it will sell ''Rohto IQ 90'' lenses imported from CooperVision Inc., a major U.S. contact lens maker.

Compared to conventional lenses that have to be disposed of after a day or replaced after two weeks, the three-month lenses are durable and economical, a company spokesman said.

The company will also sell CooperVision's ''Toric'' contact lens for correcting astigmatism.

Retailers will be free to set their own prices, but one lens is expected to be priced at between 3,000 yen and 3,300 yen, with the lens for astigmatism to be about 1,000 yen more expensive.
