Rogers is youngest ever to win race; CYCLING.

Byline: BARRY DAVIES

SCORING his first win in round three of the Evolution Bikes North Wales Cyclo X league, Robert Rogers (Birkenhead NE CC) became the youngest-ever winner of a race in league history. Following on from a fine sixth place in the previous day's North West race in Liverpool and leading junior rider, the youngster led from the start with fellow visitors Roy Davies (Team Elite), Alex Paterson and league leader Mark Jones (NWCXG). Gradually pulling away from the older riders, Rogers was never troubled as he raced clear for the victory. Davies got the better of Paterson for second with Jones in fourth to increase his lead for the league title. Janet Burtham (VC Melyd) showed her improvement this winter with a win over reigning champion Sarah Barnwell (CDMBC) with visitor Jacky Field (CC Ashfield) third. In the under-16s, Craig Rogers (Birkenhead NE CC) copied older brother Robert's victory. Leading U16 girl was Grace Attwood, while she also claimed the U12s victory. Result: 1st Robert Rogers (Birkenhead NE CC), 2nd Roy Davies (Team Elite), 3rd Alex Paterson, 4th Mark Jones (NWCXG), 5th Kurt Scott (H/C the Belgians), 6th Chris Jones (GWRT), 7th Chris Sstephens (Chester RC), 8th Dean Smith (Frodsham Wh), 9th B Athwood (H/C the Belgians), 10th Ian Evans (Dwyfor CC).
