Roddick crashes out to unheralded Israeli.

ANDY Roddick became the first big-name casualty at the AEGON Championships when he slumped to 6-4 7-6 (10-8) defeat by Dudi Sela of Israel.

Ranked 63 in the world, Sela claimed one of his biggest scalps after being in control for most of his third-round match against the fourth seed.

Sela made early inroads into Roddick's serve, breaking the American in the third game and then capitalising on a flurry of late errors to claim the opening set. In the second-set tie-break Sela squandered one match point, but he did not waste the second with an acrobatic backhand sending Roddick crashing out.

Awaiting Sela in the quarter-final is German Rainer Schuettler, who was given a walkover after Richard Gasquet withdrew because of a back injury.

Rafael Nadal endured an uncomfortable afternoon before emerging a 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-4 winner against Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan.

But the biggest shock came late in the day with Belgium's Xavier Malisse knocking out second seed Novak Djokovic, the Serbian losing 6-3 4-6 6-2. In the quarter-final Malisse meets American Sam Querrey who beat Marcel Granollers of Spain 6-4 7-6 (7-5).

Andy Murray's match with American Mardy Fish is delicately poised at 3-3 in the final set, with bad light preventing an outcome last night.

Fish won the first set 6-4 but Murray picked up the pace in the second set to win 6-1 and the momentum was with the Scot in the third as he battled back from 3-0 down.
