Rock of Ages.

No. 1 singles from this week, with Jade Wright 1955 Eddie Calvert - Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White IT may sound like the Dulux paint chart, but Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White or Cerezo Rosa or Gummy Mambo, is the English version of Cerisier Rouge et Pommier Blanc, a popular song with music by Louiguy written in 1950.

French lyrics to the song by Jacques Larue and English lyrics by Mack David both exist, and recordings of both have been quite popular.

However, Perez Prado''s recording of the song as an instrumental with his orchestra featuring trumpeter Billy Regis, whose trumpet sound would slide down and up before the melody would resume, was the most popular version in 1955. Perez had first covered this title for the movie Underwater!, where Jane Russell can be seen dancing to the song.

In the United Kingdom, two versions of the song went to number one in 1955. The first was the version by Perez Prado, which reached number one for two weeks. Less than a month later, a version by the British trumpeter Eddie Calvert reached number one for four weeks.

In 1982, Modern Romance (featuring John Du Prez) had a UK Top 20 hit with the vocal version of the song.

1991 Cher - The Shoop Shoop Song (It''s In His Kiss) WRITTEN by Rudy Clark, this song was made a hit when recorded by Betty Everett in 1964.

Calvin Carter, the chief A&R man for the Chicago-based Vee-Jay Records, found It''s in His Kiss while visiting New York in search of material for the Vee-Jay roster which included Betty Everett. After Everett had a hit with another song Calvin Carter brought back from New York City, You''re No Good, Calvin Carter suggested Everett cut It''s in His Kiss as the follow-up single. Everett - who found the song puerile - reluctantly agreed.

It had its first UK profile performed by The Searchers with Mike Pender on lead - who cut the song as It''s in Her Kiss for their April 1964 album It''s The Searchers. The song was subsequently recorded by The Hollies and The Swinging Blue Jeans while Helen Shapiro, Lulu and Sandie Shaw all recorded It''s in His Kiss, though none of these versions was released as a single.

Cher sang it for her film Mermaids, after which it topped the UK charts for five weeks, making it one of the biggest-selling singles by a female artist in Britain in the 1990s.
