Robinson powers to success.

BEN Robinson made sure Welsh interest was maintained heading into the third round of the Boys Amateur Championship at Royal Liverpool this morning.

The talented Vale of Glamorgan teenager powered his way into the last 32 with a 4&3 victory over Jonathan Thompson from Lindrick.

He moved into a commanding position early on establishing a three-hole advantage but Thomson did rally before the Vale star went into top gear again and closed out the match.

He will now face West Cornwall's Harry Hall, who beat Ben Brewster 6&5. Llanwern pair Otto Mand and Jack Davidson were unfortunate to be involved in first-round matches of which there were only six.

After a titanic battle Mand came through on the last against Ireland's Jake Whelan but Davidson went down on the final hole to Adam Chapman of Windermere.

But 18-year-old Mand met his match in round two being trounced 6&5 by former Essex junior champion Bobby Keeble.
