Roadtest Citroen C5: Now better by Design; With its new look inside and out, and a mega cashback deal thrown in as a bonus, Citroen's C5 range looks a sure-fire winner, says BILL CAVEN.
CITROEN have got pretty serious designs on making it big in the family car stakes.
The French firm are beefing up their C5 range to broaden its appeal still further. However, the changes are largely cosmetic, with the front end gaining double-decker chrome strips with the famous Citroen double chevron as the centrepiece.
Coupled with imposing headlamps, the new look is much more striking and dynamic.
At the same time, Citroen have increased the length of the car by 12cms - the luggage area being the main winner.
Inside the cabin the dash has been tweeked and the quality improved.
Now Citroen are to introduce four great value Design models this month to attract more buyers to the brand.
Based on the current LX model, the new-look C5 reinforces the large family car's reputation for providing superb value for money - something all motorists seek.
Citroen are offering Design customers a pounds 2600 cashback deal, which means that prices for the C5 now start at pounds 12,995.
On top of this, the Design models gain alloy wheels and fog lamps.
The improvements don't end there as the marque have also introduced automatic headlamp illumination, auto windscreen wipers and electric windows.
The Design comes with the choice of two powertrains regardless of whether you select the hatch or estate model.
The 117bhp 1.8-litre petrol unit can accelerate the car to 62mph in around 11 seconds and on to a top speed of 122mph, while the 1.6-litre HDi diesel option gives similar performance, yet returns more than 50 miles to the gallon on most journeys.
Thanks to all the changes, Citroen have crafted a handsome motorway cruiser which can accommodate all the family
