Road fatalities post noticeable decrease (Road Safety Association).

(TAP) - The number of deaths and injuries caused by road accidents has noticeably decreased in February, for the second consecutive month, compared to the same period in 2018, according to statistics of the Tunisian Road Safety Association issued on Monday.

The statistics show a decline by 19 fatalities, 406 injuries, and 231 accidents in February 2019 compared to the same period in 2018.

In February 2019, the official authorities reported 317 road accidents, causing 69 life losses and 415 injuries, as against 548 road accidents, causing 88 fatalities and 821 wounded in February 2018.

The regions with the highest rates of road accidents are Tunis (10), Sousse (10), Nabeul (8), Sfax (6), while in Ben Arous, Monastir, Zaghouan, and Jendouba, the authorities reported zero road traffic death.

The 5 major causes for road accidents are: road crossing (19.87%), inattention (18.61%),excessive speed (17.35%), obligation to give way (8.83%), and irruptions (8.52%).
