Road Trip.
(DreamWorks SKG; in release)The makers: Todd Phillips, director; Phillips and Scot Armstrong, writers
The stars: Breckin Meyer, Seann William Scott, Tom Green, Anthony Rapp, Amy Smart
The pitch: Four college dudes hightail it from Ithaca, N.Y., to Austin, Tex., to retrieve a videotape that could destroy a romance--and try to grab a slice or two of American Pie along the way.
The reason we care: Our favorite Rent boy, out actor Anthony Rapp, plays it straight as the tweedy teacher's assistant who lusts after the same girl (Smart) as the studly Meyer.
The makers: Director Phillips (making his narrative feature debut in the wake of his raunchy documentary Frat House) recruited Rapp--the two were classmates at New York University--to play the hero's comic foil. I guess I'm the villain, but it's not a Crueila De Vil turn," jokes Rapp "I'm really the butt of some of the jokes, though I can't give those away. But I can tell you I got to witness Tom Green munching on a mouse. He was really a complete professional about it."
