Rising to the challenge.

THE NAME OF OUR CONSULTANCY IS SAGE CONSULTANTS L.L.C. We service disabled veterans and minority-owned businesses. We were moved by the article "Saving Our Young Black Men" (Publisher's Page,January 2006) and felt compelled to accept your challenge.

We have formed a youth mentoring group in the greater Hampton Roads, Virginia, area and are seeking sponsors to help move our project. Thus far, our scope of involvement is primarily in the public school system, institution of higher learning (Hampton University), and local churches. We don't believe our boys are exposed to enough black men who have obtained success and choose to live in a righteous manner. Every time we visit the school system and meet with parents, there are never any men involved. This is part of, but not entirely, the problem.

We plan to take inner-city kids to college campuses to show them that they must remove the limitations that they are placing on themselves. And we continue to share the January 2006 Publisher's Page with all of our audiences.
