Rising to a new challenge.

Following its recent acquisition by construction group Fifehead, Birmingham-based BUXTON has recruited Mr John Scott-Lee as business development director.

He joins the company from Mansell, and will be responsible for helping build Buxton's reputation and enhancing the company's client base throughout the West Midlands.

He has worked in the region for 15 years.

Mr Jeremy Thomas, cargo manager of MAERSK AIR, has been appointed chairman of the UK Air Cargo Club Midlands. He succeeds Ms Diane Cleaver, owner of Forward Prospects recruitment specialists for the freight forwarding industry.

Mr Thomas has worked for Maersk, the British Airways franchise partner, for eight years.

CAP GEMINI, the IT services and management consultancy, has appointed Mr Joe Edwards as its new regional sales director.

Based at the company's office in Aston, Birmingham, he will be responsible for ensuring Cap Gemini's resources across the country are tuned to maximising business growth, paying special attention to e-business. Mr Edwards was formerly UK sales director for Hewlett Packard.

Employment law specialist Mr Michael Lambe has left London to join Sutton Coldfield-based law firm WHITTLES, bringing the sector team to seven.

Trust and property lawyer Mr Gavin Patience has joined solicitors PUTSMANS as a partner within the firm's expanding private equity division.

He was previously with Shrewsbury firm Patience Clarke and Burrowes where he was senior partner for the 12 years.

The VILLAGE HOTEL AND LEISURE CLUB in Dudley has appointed Mr Mark James as senior membership adviser. He will head a team of seven responsible for recruiting members for the hotel's leisure club facilities.

Mr James, who has a degree in recreation and leisure management, is a keen sportsman, having had trials for three football teams and also a keen athlete.

Coventry commercial insurance broker, R E HUTT, has appointed Mr Matthew Finch to the new role of business development director following his qualification as an associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute in October.

Mr Finch has worked for the firm for 11 years.

Bilston-based BECK & POLLITZER ENGINEERING has appointed Mr Dave Clarke as general manager of its plant division. He will be responsible for developing and promoting crane services, contract lifting services, fork lift truck hire and heavy haulage services.

Lawyers DLA have strengthened their expanding human resources group in Birmingham with the appointment of Mr Stephen Lynes as an associate. He was previously solicitor for the English, Welsh & Scottish Railway and before that worked for British Railways.

Former IT specialist Mr Bob Neal has joined MARTINEAU JOHNSON'S tax department to advise corporate clients on tax and employee share schemes. He will have a special focus on high-tech, IT and e-commerce businesses.
