Rise in counterfeit euro notes in circulation in Belgium.

| BRUSSELS, Oct 17 (KUNA) -- The Belgian National Bank Thursday revealed that from January to June, 21,580 fake euro notes were seized in Belgium. For the whole of 2012, this figure was 22,433, Belgian media reported.

In particular 50 euro bills and 20 euro bills are being counterfeited, although in the past months more fake 500 euro notes have been discovered.

Fake 50 euro notes account for 70 percent of the fake notes this year, while 20 euro bills account for 20 percent.

There is more fake money circulating in Belgium than elsewhere, because the techniques to trace the fake notes are poorer in Belgium, noted the reports. (end) nk.ajs KUNA 171734 Oct 13NNNN
