Rip-off Britain; You Say Email:letters@liverpoolecho.co.uk.

AFTER seeing my car insurance premium rise by 50% in the last two years I, like every other motorist, welcome the government's announced intention to do something about the insurance companies continued 'racking up' of costs and, in effect, ripping off the motorist.

However, given the way our watchdogs of the water; energy and telecom industries continue to be toothless against companies charging whatever they want for essential services, I have little faith in their ability, or desire, to do anything concrete about it. How much longer can any government quote Britain's free market economy as an excuse to allow these cartels to continue to rip-off the British public by artificially inflating prices to increase profit to exorbitant levels? And how much longer are we going to be expected to pay for these toothless tigers to monitor the situation? Bernie Hunt, Kensington Fields
