Riot estate to get extra cash.
The Caia Park project lost its financial backing when the National Lottery backed community fund ended this month.
Now the Welsh Assembly has offered a pounds 72,901 grant under its communities first programme of aid to disadvantaged area.
The money will pay for a volunteer co-ordinator and an assistant until the end of March 2005.
The posts will support two volunteer groups and 60 volunteers.
The Caia Park project arranges training and work placements for people who have difficulties in gaining employment.
It also helps residents with mental health, drink and drugs problems.
Social justice and regeneration minister Edwina Hart said: ``The Caia Park volunteer project provides an important service to vulnerable members of the community.
``It would have been a major body blow if the project had been jeopardised through loss of funding.
``Caia Park has been in the news headlines for all the wrong reasons recently and I am glad to be able to give the community some good news.''
The communities first programme is a long-term strategy for improving opportunities and the quality of life for people living and working in the most disadvantaged parts of Wa les.
The programme ensures funds of the Assembly government and other publicly-funded agencies are targeted at the poorest areas.
