Rigoletto in La-La Land.
Los Angeles opera buffs will get eye candy with their arias in March when the L.A. Opera unveils its new Rigoletto--set in Y2K Hollywood. Updating Verdi's revenge drama was all about fashion, says out costume designer Johann Stegmeir: "We're going to capture a certain star quality, sexiness, and glamour. The central look of the piece is Armani, because without Armani there is no Hollywood style." For party scenes Stegmeir, 34, will drape performers in his own creations plus outfits by Ferrer, Prada, Gaultier, Dolce & Gabbana, and "lots of Versace." Still, he swears there's no gay agenda. (Did we mention all eyewear was created by gay-friendly L.A. Eyeworks?)
