Right to Information workshop held.
Islamabad -- A workshop titled 'Right to Information' held here at local hotel on Wednesday. Mahboob Qadir Shah Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Punjab addressed the workshop along with other participants.
Mr. Azmat Hanif Chief Information Commissioner KP, Ch. Azam Federal Chief Information Commissioner and Zahid Abdullah Federal Information Commissioner were also addressed the workshop.
A large number of RTI activists and NGOs workers have attended the event. CIC Punjab Mahboob Qadir Shah made a comprehensive presentation about the performance of the Punjab Information Commission during the year 2018 and their vision and plans for the forthcoming year 2019.
He stated that right to information is a fundamental right of citizens under article 19/A of the constitution of the country and the law namely the Punjab Transparency and Right to information act 2013. He informed that PIC has been able to provide public information to around 1000 citizens in a span of just six months.
He stated that the said law provides an effective mechanism for citizen to get pubic information. He appreciated PTI government for taking historic action by nominating three commissioners in federal Information Commission. Later the Chief Information Commission Punjab appreciated the contribution of the 'Morning Mail' and 'Daily Jinnah' for rule of law, human rights and rights to information.
He highlighted the position and role of electronic and print media for launching awareness of right to information as a necessary tool for ensuring genuine democracy with participation of people.
