SHREWSBURY Richard Alan DeLong, 78, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Framingham, died Tuesday October 4, 2011 after a brief hospital stay. Born in Jamaica Plain, he was the son of the late Mary (Lamont) and Roy A. DeLong. He leaves his wife of 50 years, Hazel (Wagner) DeLong; three daughters, Leta DeLong-Stochaj and her husband Michael Stochaj of Shrewsbury; Dawn (DeLong) Wentworth of Grafton; Cheryl (DeLong) Strong and her husband Robert Strong, Jr. of Orlando, FL; four grandchildren, Christian Stochaj, Rachel Wentworth, Benjamin Strong and Alex Strong, a brother Charles DeLong and his wife Christa Thomsen of Biddeford Pool, ME, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Marjorie (DeLong) Manning. Richard was a proud member of Carpenter's Union Local 475 for 56 years. For over 15 years, he was the Assistant and later the Scoutmaster of Troop 4 in Framingham. A past member of Park Street Baptist Church in Framingham, he was a present member of the Baptist Church of Grafton. Richard loved woodworking, and was a master of his craft. His hobbies included gardening and he was an avid reader of history both past and present, and the daily newspapers, which he read cover to cover. But the greatest loves of his life were his beloved wife, Hazel, his daughters, their husbands, and grandchildren, of whom he was especially proud. All are invited to calling hours for Richard Friday October 7th from 5pm to 8pm at RONEY FUNERAL HOME, 152 Worcester St., N. Grafton, MA 01536. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday October 8th at 11:00am at The Baptist Church of Grafton 1 South St. Grafton MA 01519. All attending the funeral service are respectfully requested to go directly to the church. Burial will be private at the convenience of his family.
