Richard A. Shaw dead at 86.

Richard A. Shaw, founder of Richard A. Shaw Frozen Foods Co., died Feb. 2 at the age of 86.

In 1975, Mr. Shaw founded his company in Watsonville, CA. A monterey native, Shaw got his start in the frozen foods business working at Fresh Frozen Foods before spending 20 years as a superintendent and general manager at Watsonville Canning and Frozen Foods. In 1975 he opened his own plant.

In 1988, Mr. Shaw retired and sold the company to Dean Frozen Foods. In 1998, Birds Eye Foods bought the

Watsonville facility. Mr. Shaw was a member of the American Frozen Foods Institute from 1980 to 1984.
