Built atop Sun Microsystem's Swing graphic user interface library, NetBeans is an open-source integrated development environment for developing Java applications that employs modularity to simplify the creation and modification of features with both reliability and scalability. The authors of this work (all affiliated with the NetBeans project) provide a tutorial on the application programming interfaces of NetBeans that underlie its functionality. The volume is written to version 5.5 of the program. The contents of the CD-ROM are not described in the text.
