This text provides a summary of the subject and is designed primarily for medical students, offering relevant anatomic information, examples from clinical medicine, and brief discussions of important symptoms. Also contained is a self-study section for Board and other examinations, an appendix of statistical methods, and a glossary of abbreviations, acronyms, and symbols. This twenty-second edition has been revised to eliminate errors and incorporate suggestions. In the current edition, Ganong (physiology, University of California) expands coverage of food intake, mitochondria and molecular motors, melanopsin, pheromones, von Willebrand factor, and the complexity of connexons, while sections on renal function and estrogen receptors have been updated. The self-help section contains more information on physiology in relation to disease.
