Rainford High has been named the best school in St Helens by our Read Schools Guide 2019.
The school on Higher Lane retained its place as the best school in the borough.
TheReal Schools Guide 2019 aims to give a far more comprehensive picture than traditional league tables.
It takes into account 51 different data points. This includes not just GCSE results, and Attainment 8 scores, but also factors like Progress 8, pupil-teacher ratios and absence rates.
Rainford High was judged as 'requiring improvement' by Ofsted in 2014 but, following an inspection in 2015, it was re-assessed as 'good'.
The school opened in 1940 to serve Rainford and the surrounding area. It had a rebuild under the Building Schools for the Future that was opened fully in September 2013.
In September 2017 Rainford High became an academy part of the Rainford Academies Trust.
The school site has state of the art facilities for science, design and technology and ICT and boasts football Conor Coady and rugby league footballer Lee Briers as its alumni.
Principal Ian Young says on the school's website: "We have a fantastic learning environment fit for the 21st Century.
"Our school has a clear ethos that Everyone Matters, Everyone Helps and Everyone Succeeds.
"There is only one way to achieve this and that is by staff, students and parents working together so we can ensure that every child who comes here can have the best education possible."
TheReal Schools Guide 2019, now in its seventh year, has been praised by ministers and education experts alike.
Former schools minister David Laws called it "public-service journalism in the best tradition".
