Retailer opens NY flagship at Hammerson's 420 Fifth Ave.

The office-condominium building at 420 Fifth Avenue has secured its first retail tenant - the nation's largest computer super-store, CompUSA, Inc., a 53-unit national chain.

This location will be the first store in New York City for Dallas-based CompUSA, a New York Stock Exchange-listed retailer with annual revenues in excess of $1 billion.

CompUSA will occupy approximately 40,000 square feet on three retail levels.

The lease is for a period of 15-years, says E. Bruce Heyland, Head of North America for Hammerson Group, developers of the 600,000-square-foot building.

Expected to move in around Thanksgiving, CompUSA will offer PC's, accessories, monitors, printers, and a wide variety of other hardware and software products.

Only two floors of office space in the 28-story building remain unsold, the 24th and 25th floors.
