Restrictions for start of new season.

THE new season opens on Saturday at Ynysyfro Reservoir but because the level of the bottom pond is still well down following maintenance work, fishing will be limited to the top pond only.

As there is a much reduced area for angling, only members of Newport Reservoirs Fly Fishing Association will be allowed to fish until further notice As soon as the bottom pond has risen to a level to allow fishing in safety, day tickets at PS10 allowing two fish to be taken as well as catch and release, will be available to non-members.

The S association's social evening saw trophies won last season handed out.

The cup for the heaviest trout on the opening weekend of the season went to Ashley Lynch, who caught a 3lb 14oz rainbow.

Two Cardiff members won the other trophies.

Keith Higgins took the cup for the heaviest boat-caught fish with a 3lb 10oz rainbow and Ken Bowring was presented with the cup for the heaviest fish from the bottom pond with a 5lb 6oz rainbow and also the cup for the best from the top pond with one that weighed 5lb 4oz.
