Restaurant fined over oil drum spill.

NEWCASTLE: BOSSES of a Chinese restaurant have been fined after spilling waste oil across a city pavement.

Environmental officers from Newcastle City Council found that a waste cooking oil drum outside Mangos restaurant on Stowell Street had leaked oil.

Although the drum was moved and the pavement washed down, after the officers' visit, the floor was left stained by the waste.

Longfield Leisure Ltd, the company who run the restaurant, did not attend Newcastle Magistrates' Court to answer the breach of the Environmental Protection Act, but were fined a total of pounds 564 after the case was proven in their absence.
