Resource Plastics Corp.

Resource Plastics Corp. (Brantford, Ont.) wil supply Dow Chemical Canada Inc. (Sarnia, Ont.) with recycled high-density polyethylene, made from recycled post-consumer containers. Under the multi-year agreement, Resource Plastics will find and recycle the material, while Dow Chemical will market it and provide technical support to customers.

The Coal Association of Canada, along with other sponsors, is currently studying technology to generate electricity by burning a gas produced from coal. A commercial-scale plant demonstrating the technology is expected to be up and running by the end of the 1990s.

The technology, called integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC), almost eliminates the acid gases produced when coal is burned for power generation, and reduces the carbon monoxide emissions. Bechtel Canada (Toronto), an engineering firm, is currently preparing a feasibility study, to be completed during the fall, for the association.
