Resort style.
TRADITION ABOUNDS IN THE YOUNG FAMILY. Brothers Trent and Troy both graduated from Ole Miss, their father's alma mater. Dad was a menswear retailer in Port Charlotte; the brothers opened a men's boutique called Captain's Landing in Punta Gorda. Success led to a Venice outpost in 2005, and last fall to an inspired new flagship store on Venice Avenue.[ILLUSTRATION OMITTED]
"It was a no-brainer to open a store catering to the men's resort niche in Venice. It's a tourist and retirement area; our entire family lives here [all home grown in Venice]," Trent explains. "Our target guy is 50 to 60, a boomer or early retiree entering a new phase of life. He's throwing out his suits and ties, and dressing comfortably is part of that lifestyle change." Captain's Landing obliges with head-to-toe dressing from the finest names on the planet.

Get the "Young" Look
TRENT AND TROY YOUNG WEAR WHAT THEY SELL: resort-chic brands like Tori Richard and Kahala, clothes that can be casual for day, but dressed up at night. The easy-care North Wind cord shirt/jacket ($125), right, goes from beach to restaurant.
What this town needs: Venice is perfect, the brothers say, except for one item missing from city planner John Nolan's original 1920s design: a full-service destination hotel that could be home base for an entire vacation. "It's No. 1 on our agenda," says Trent, who chairs the city's economic development task force.
Can't live without: "Challenges. They keep you motivated; keep you moving," says Trent. "There's nothing I can't live without," Troy jokes, referring to the Soul Asylum tune. "Except family."
