Resort project opposed.

RESORT PROJECT OPPOSED. Nearly 300 people, ranging from poor Garifuna villagers to rich resort owners, from the communities of Placencia peninsula confronted the investors and developers of the Ara Macao Resort project, along with government officials, who presented themselves as being one with Ara Macao, reports Caribbean Net News (May 9, 2006). The proposed development includes: Accommodations for just under 13,000 people; 67 acre marina holding up to 400 boats of up to 100 feet long and involving dredging on the Caribbean side of 1.2 million cubic yards of fill; Two 9-hole golf courses; 296 villas (in 2-story buildings); 458 condos (in 4-story buildings); 260 room hotel; 59 single family houses; 106,250 square foot casino and night club. Paul Goguen president of ioVesp Developments, the developers of the Ara Macao project was unavailable for comment.
