Report your road accident through smart app.

Dubai: Dubai residents will soon be able to report their own minor road accidents through a new smartphone application, announced Dubai Police at the GCC Government Social Media Summit taking place in Dubai.

Colonel Khalid Nasser Al Razooqi, Director-General of the Smart Services Department at Dubai Police, explained that the new application will eliminate the need for police officers to come to an accident scene involving a minor fender-bender. The app will be launched soon but no specific date was given.

He said that the application will require motorists who are involved in a minor accident to send a picture of their vehicle, along with their personal information such as their name, number plate and driving licence number to the police using their smartphone. The pictures and data will be registered at the police station through the application, and the necessary traffic documents will be sent back to the motorist via email. Motorists can then use these documents for their vehicle's insurance claim, he said.

If more details about the accident are needed, a police officer will contact those involved in the accident. The app is a step forward in Dubai Police's efforts to transform all their services into electronic and smart ones.

Al Razooqi pointed out that more than 50 per cent of people are now using the department's e-services to reach Dubai Police.

"For instance, residents can now obtain government documents in ten minutes via mobile and email, a process that would previously have taken three days," said Al Razooqi.

According to the latest statistics, more than 23 million mobile transactions have been performed to pay traffic fines since the launch of Dubai Police's smart services in November 2013, he said.
