Report on IPNRC faculty workshop and retreat.

This year, the two events for our Faculty Coordinators were held separately, at different times and locations. In the past, the events for "Current" and "New/ Additional" Faculty were held concurrently at the Mercy Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

Early last year, during the throes of the economic downturn, the decision was made to hold the "Current" Faculty Coordinators Retreat immediately preceding the Westberg Symposium (and at the same location in St. Charles, Missouri), thus eliminating travel expenses twice in one budget year, and, hopefully, saving precious budget dollars. The "New/Additional" Faculty Workshop would be held in the same time frame as previous years, mid-summer at the Mercy Center in St. Louis.

The "New/Additional" Faculty Workshop was held August 5-8, 2010. Twenty-one attended this event: six "new" faculty and fifteen "additional" faculty. New Educational Partners include:

* Indiana University (IN)

* Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (KY)

* Holy Cross Hospital (MD)

* Mercy Medical Center (IA)

* North Central AHEC (MS), and

* York District, UMC (PA)

The "additional" faculty came from across the country, in all directions from Maine to California, Minnesota to Alabama, and many states in between.

The curriculum for this workshop is in the process of being converted to the format developed for the 2009 Basic Preparation Curriculum, and will be fully revised before the 2011 New/Additional Faculty Workshop.

The "Current" Faculty Retreat was held September 15-16, 2010. Fifty-two faculty registered for this event.

The program centered on issues facing parish nursing, beginning with a session by JoAnn Corley on creative thinking. Several work groups were formed to do additional work on the issues deemed most important to our ministry. When finalized, the products from these work groups will be shared through Parish Nurse Perspectives.

A planning group has been formed to put together the retreat for next year, and we will move to a time frame and location that allows some overlap between the two groups. Stay tuned for more details about the location and dates.
