Replace Waterlines On Carole Drive, Fairview Court.
Contract Awarded to Replace waterlines on Carole Drive, Fairview Court and Home Circle.
Contract awarded: June 2017
The city Utilities Commission awarded the project to the Petersburg contractor based on the recommendation of Benesch Engineering, which is overseeing the work, and the fact that the city administration reported no troubles with the recent North Cunningham Road sanitary sewer extension project. X-Press Underground was the contractor.
The companys bid of $356,315 was way below the engineers estimate of $479,233 and the other six bids submitted. Other bidders and their bids were: Woodford Excavating Inc., $402,006; J.S. Bova Excavating, $408,676; Rudzik Excavating, $428,705; S.E.T. Inc., $443,795; Utility Contracting, Inc., $462,593; and JCW, $475,688.
Utilities Superintendent Don Weingart states the project could be held up slightly since the permit to install hasnt been issued yet, but the commission acted on the contract, pending the permits issuance. Commission Chairman Robert Hodgson said he wasnt expecting the project to be delayed for long.
Both this project and a waterline replacement on North Ellsworth Avenue were planned in concert with the city repaving this summer, with the waterlines being done ahead of the repaving on those streets so the streets wont get torn up after being repaved. The project on North Ellsworth Avenue is being engineered and overseen by Howells & Baird. J.S. Bova Excavating was awarded the contract last month and a pre-construction meeting was held this week. Hodgson said that project is expected to get started on July 9.
