Repair team puts Lisa in the frame; EVERY DAY IS DIFFERENT, SAYS WORKFORCE'S ONLY WOMAN.

Byline: SAMANTHA CLARKE

IT'S a man's world for Lisa Fleckner when she goes to work in the mornings.

Lisa, aged 30, of Chapelfields, is the only tradeswoman in a team of dedicated workers who repair homes across the city.

She said: "My uncle was a glazier and I helped him when I was younger, which is how I became interested in the trade.

"My role with Whitefriars involves boarding up and re-glazing windows, and takes me all over the city. Every day is different."

She added: "It doesn't bother me that I'm the only woman.

"I enjoy my job and could never work in an office all day."

Lisa and her colleagues are among the 160-strong workforce at Whitefriars HomeWorks, a company made up of a team of workers who recently transferred from Coventry City Council's building services team to Whitefriars Housing Group.

The team, which includes plumbers, electricians, carpenters and glaziers, carry out day-to-day emergency and routine repairs at Whitefriars homes across the city.

Peter Lacy, chairman of Whitefriars Services, said the transfer was for the good of the public. "We would like to thank the council for its work in helping us to ensure a quick and smooth transfer," he said.

"The outcome will be good for all staff involved and it will be extremely good for our tenants."
