Renschler of DaimlerChrysler to join Mitsubishi Motors board.

TOKYO, Dec. 7 Kyodo

Mitsubishi Motors Corp. said Tuesday that Andreas Renschler, head of the Commercial Vehicles Division at DaimlerChrysler AG, will replace Eckhard Cordes as a non-executive member of its board.

Cordes, who joined Mitsubishi Motors' board in April, has recently been appointed to head the German auto giant's Mercedes Car Group and voluntarily resigned from his position at Mitsubishi Motors to avoid a possible conflict of interests, the Japanese automaker said.

Mitsubishi Motors, which has capital and other relations with DaimlerChrysler, has yet to announce when Renschler will assume his new post.

Renschler had been regarded as a leading candidate for Mitsubishi Motors' president before DaimlerChrysler decided in April to discontinue financial support for the Japanese automaker that is reeling from a series of vehicle defect coverups.
