Renowned artist dies aged 75 [...].
Renowned artist dies aged 75 TRIBUTES have been paid to a distinguished artist who died at his Anglesey home yesterday following a long illness.
Wilf Roberts' work had become highly soughtafter following several sell-out exhibitions at both his Anglesey and London galleries, fetching record prices at auction.
Mr Roberts (below), of Mynydd Bodafon, who was 75, was regarded as one of the leading Welsh landscape artists of his generation, his work held in public and private collections in The Hague, Paris, New York and Australia.
He only fully devoted his time to painting in 1996 after a career in local government and education.
Dr Martin Tinney, owner of Oriel Tegfryn in Menai Bridge where Mr Roberts displayed much of his work, said: "One can sense the affinity he had with his surroundings in his paintings - the tranquillity and sheer simplicity of stark stone cottages and peaceful olive groves, or the rugged cliffs and turbulent seas."
Speaking to the Daily Post earlier this year, Mr Roberts said: "The landscapes that inspire me are my island home and in particular my own square mile at Mynydd Bodafon - its paths are familiar to me and it's where I'm most comfortable."
