Renovated Al Khor Corniche zones opened to public.

Ashghal and Municipal officials at the reopening of Zone 1 and 2 of Al Khor Corniche.

The first and second zones of Al Khor Corniche development project were opened yesterday to public after the completion of some of the major works in the area.

The third zone will be opened during the first half of the holy month of Ramadan. Yesterday's opening took place in the presence of the Central Municipal Council member for Al Khor constituency, Nasser bin Ibrahim al-Muhannadi.

He lauded the efforts of Ashghal to finish work in record time.

Al Khor Municipality's public services department manager Hamad Ali al-Muraikhi said the new-look Corniche would attract more visitors to the area.

The project, which started in November 2017, included maintenance, renovation and construction of the entire Corniche, spread across three zones in 28,000sq m area.

Ashghal's buildings projects department project engineer Hend al-Mahmeid said the project included renovated pedestrian walkway floor, with 22,500sq m of granite and interlock system of varying designs, shapes and colours.

The children's play area will be completely renovated and three new areas added to the existing ones. The play areas will be opened to public within two months.

In addition, 256 benches and 46 umbrellas will be provided as part of the project. Public toilets will be renovated with new ones for people with special needs. All works related to water closets will be completed by today.

The Al Khor Corniche project has also been provided with nearly 6,000sq m of green spaces. Also, a new irrigation network has been built in addition to a new storm water drainage

network.

As many as 100 decorative lighting columns have been integrated with the decorated walkway. The project includes additional 45 new parking spaces, taking the total to 116, in addition to building ramps to enable people with special needs to

visit the Corniche and the beach.

To ensure the safety of the visitors, the old metal fence has been replaced with a new one, in addition to the renovation of the concrete blocks separating the upper and central areas and replacing the lower concrete wall with a new one.

Abdullah Misnad al-Misnad, a resident of Al Khor City, thanked all those who contributed to the completion of Al Khor Corniche.

This opening is a part of Ashghal's integrated plan to develop and maintain Corniche areas in Doha, Al Khor and Al Shamal, as well as Al Wakrah Beach.
