ON THIS day in 1982 one of the world's most popular tourist destinations opened - Elvis Presley's former home Graceland.

It is a magnet for fans of the rock singer who was dubbed 'The King' during his pioneering career.

The 14-acre estate in Memphis, Tennessee, now attracts around 750,000 every year.

Presley, who died in 1977, is buried at the ornate, extravagant mansion.
