Remember, remember the music of Guy Fawkes Day; Classical.

Byline: PATSY FULLER

THE Gunpowder Plot will be given a musical makeover when the York Waits band play in Warwickshire next week.

Fortune My Foe is about the Gunpowder Plot and will feature music from the days of Guy Fawkes.

There will be readings by Tim Healey who has his own links with the Houses of Parliament - he is the son of former chancellor and foreign secretary Denis Healey.

The concert at the Kingsley School Hall in Beauchamp Road, Leamington, on Tuesday, will be the York Waits's first performance in the town.

The York Waits perform in the livery costume of the period and the line-up for the concert will be Tim Bayley, Susan Marshall, William Marshall, John Peel and Roger Richardson. They will bring with them an array of instruments including crumhorns, sackbuts and shawms.

Tickets on 01926 776438.

COMPOSER and pianist Ludovico Einaudi's music has been described as the welcome sound of stillness in a hectic world.

The Turin-born musician will be joined by Roberto Lippok and Marco Decimo for a concert at Coventry's Warwick Arts Centre on Thursday.

Lippok, from To Rococo Rot, is a longterm collaborator with Einaudi and uses experimental electronic music. Cellist Marco Decimo has worked extensively with Einaudi and has also played on his albums Una Mattina and Divenire.

Einaudi's work may be too minimalist for some, but it seems to strike a strong visual response with audiences and film directors. Parts of his latest album, Divenire, were used in the soundtrack of the Shane Meadows film This is England.

Tickets from 024 7652 4524.

FOUR musicians from Poland make a return visit to Warwickshire next week.

The Karol Szymanowski String Quartet will be playing at the Royal Pump Rooms in Leamington where they won many fans at a concert four years ago.

They will be playing works by Haydn, Ravel and Beethoven at next Friday's recital.

Box office 01926 776438.
