Relief activities underway off camps IDPs in Mardan.

MARDAN, June 26, 2009 (Balochistan Times) -- Relief activities are underway in 25 Union councils of District Mardan under the aegis of Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO), NGO. So far relief packages comprising non food items (NFIs) and Health Hygiene Kits have been distributed amongst the 882 vulnerable families of IDPs from Swat, Buner and Dir in 8 Union Councils of Mardan District. Giving details Miss Safia Coordinator IDPs project said that SPO with collaboration Oxfam has started this project wherein Non Food Items including foam mattresses, Kitchen sets, Dinner Sets, water cooler, Gas Cylinder with Burner, Bath Room set and Health Hygiene Kit are being distributed amongst the vulnerable families of IDPs. The assessment teams comprising the volunteers of Mardan Development Forum visit the respective Union Council and select the families and distribute NFIs and Health Hygiene Kits accordingly. She informed that assessment and distribution process had been completed in Union Council Daman e Koh, Maday Baba, Hathian, Hoti, Par Hoti, Khandaray, Bari Cham and Bicket Gunj while the process in the remaining 17 UCs was in progress. Apart from the distribution of NFIs and Health Hygiene Kits the experts from SPO also arranged awareness sessions with IDPs on Health and Hygiene to educate them about the balance diet and personal hygiene, she concluded.
